- Price: $40–90 ($$)
Verdict
Armadillo Negro appears to be a loosely curated secondary label with inconsistent documentation. Sierrudo itself is worth exploring if you find a better-documented release – Lalocura, Mezcalosfera, and El Tigre have all put out sierrudo at various points with specific producer information. Pass this version and hunt the Lalocura or similarly documented bottles when sierrudo interests you.
Rare agave, thin paperwork – the category's recurring problem
Tasting notes
Nose: Dry stone, then green herb, cooked agave
Palate: Sierrudo is a rare karwinskii-adjacent variant and the bottle would benefit from more documentation – no listed maestro, no ABV, no consensus rating makes confident grading difficult. The agave is distinctive enough that we'd lean toward exploration-friendly rating
Finish: Mineral, dry
The bottom line
Hold off. Hunt a better-documented sierrudo bottle
