Verdict
Bacanora was legally banned until 1992 – most commercial bottles still carry the decades of catching up. Batuq is one of the producers setting the category's new baseline at disciplined production. Sonora is a decade behind Oaxaca on distribution and producer development; Batuq is closing the gap faster than most. Buy it as the Sonoran compass bottle.

Tasting notes
Nose: Pine, warm stone, dry hay, faint smoke, a cooling herbal lift and trace of green herb underneath
Palate: Lean and distinctly northern at 44%. Agave pacifica's profile – less sweet than Oaxacan wild agaves, more mineral than most Sonoran production – is fully legible here
Finish: Cooling, dry, with a northern slate-tinged persistence – very long
