Batuq Reserva de la Casa
A higher-proof Batuq at 50%. The Reserva de la Casa bottling, where bacanora gets taken seriously
Score: 3.5/5 agaves
- Producer: Batuq Bacanora
- Region: Sonora
- Agave: Pacifica
- ABV: 50%
- Price: $90 ($$$)
Verdict
A strong reserve release from a producer setting Sonora's post-1992 baseline. Consensus 3.7 is a touch low for what the proof enables; we score it 3.5 because the blanco is nearly as good for meaningfully less money. Bacanora rarely gets high-proof treatment this disciplined – the concentration plays as intentional rather than an ABV flex.
High-proof bacanora is rare and worth paying for
Tasting notes
Nose: Concentrated pine, dry hay, mineral damp, warm stone
Palate: Dense and cold, bacanora taken seriously. The Reserva line is where Batuq pushes past the blanco's everyday register and into specialty territory; the proof does real work in elongating the river rock-herbal arc on the palate, and the agave pacifica's northern signature stays intact under the extra concentration
Finish: Cooling, dry, drying into the chest – very long
The bottom line
A serious reserve bacanora. Buy the blanco first
