Verdict

Cumbrita is one of the only importers consistently surfacing northern mezcal from named producers, and Dolores González Torres' lechuguilla work at 50% is exactly why the project matters. Buy this over any Oaxacan espadín at the same price point if you want geography to pay dividends. Chihuahuan mezcal is its own conversation, this bottle starts the right one.

Lechuguilla is the northern reply to tepeztate – wilder, drier, less photographed

Tasting notes

Nose: Dry grass, then wet stone, lime peel, a smoky vegetal edge

Palate: Lechuguilla (shrevei) and multifilifera at 50% from Yerbaniz Batopilas – Dolores González Torres does the northern mezcal tradition quietly and the bottle drinks loud

Finish: Dry, faintly bitter. Long

The bottom line

Buy for the geography lesson. The bottle delivers
