Verdict
You can hear what Sonoran bacanora sounds like in this bottle; you can't quite hear it loudly. A legitimate commercial-tier bacanora that doesn't compromise the category's identity but doesn't argue for it either. Buy Batuq or Aguamiel for the Sonoran argument at caliber; El Real de Alamos is the working gateway if those aren't available.
A reasonable commercial bacanora for drinkers starting on Sonoran agave spirits
Tasting notes
Nose: Pine, then warm stone, dry hay
Palate: Medium at 40%. The pacifica profile is readable, northern, lean, less smoky than Oaxacan mezcal – but the proof leaves the aromatics a step short of their full expression
Finish: Cooling, with a slow pine fade
The bottom line
Aguamiel or Batuq outperform at roughly the same price
