Verdict
Hacienda Oponguio's Jaramillo family are credible Michoacán producers, and the cupreata shows they know the agave. But held up against La Luna's cupreata-family releases, this one sits a half-step more civilized – the wild-cousin savagery is rounded off a touch. Buy if you want a gentler introduction to Michoacán cupreata; buy La Luna if you want the fuller version.
Cupreata in a house shirt – tidy, not revelatory
Tasting notes
Nose: Green fig, then roasted pepper, cooked agave, a hint of ash
Palate: 47% – the Filipino-still cupreata from Oponguio comes out clean and middle-weight, with the characteristic savory-green of Michoacán cupreata but less of the wild edge you find at La Luna
Finish: Clean, warm – medium
The bottom line
A softer Michoacán cupreata. La Luna still wins
