Verdict
Insecto is a newer Zapotitlán brand that hasn't yet found its voice. This ixtero-lineño ensamble has the regional ingredients for a serious tuxca but ends up dry and a little hollow – not aggressively bad, just underpowered. Pass for now in favor of Indio Alonso above or Caballito Cerrero. Worth watching if later releases improve.
Tuxca with the conviction turned off
Tasting notes
Nose: Dry grass, then mild pepper, faint smoke, a papery note
Palate: 44% – Pedro Ruiz Contreras's ixtero-lineño ensamble comes out dry and unfocused; the filipino still seems to have worked against the aromatics rather than with them
Finish: Dry, warm – short
The bottom line
Not yet. Indio Alonso is the better Zapotitlán pick
