Verdict
La Remilgosa's lechuguilla is a bottle worth seeking for the proof alone – northern-state mezcal frequently arrives underproofed to travel well in US cocktail markets, and 53% says La Remilgosa isn't playing that game. Closer to Mezonte's work than to a commercial Oaxacan. Community consensus 4.1, and no argument from us.
Lechuguilla at 53% is the northern category making its case
Tasting notes
Nose: Desert herb, dry stone, a mineral trace under green resin, a faint smoke
Palate: Sharp and declarative at 53%. Lechuguilla (a small, tough northern agave) reads drier and more iron-tinged than southern mezcal; La Remilgosa runs it at the proof the agave wants, and the result is the kind of northern-mezcal statement that rewards attention
Finish: Dry, wet slate, cool fade – long
The bottom line
The 53% is the argument. Northern mezcal at correct proof is still rare
