Verdict

La Remilgosa's verde is a better bottling than its lechuguilla by a hair – the verde's cool-green signature shows especially well at 51%, and Roldán's production has the clarity that wild-agave proof needs. Mezonte's verdes set the benchmark; La Remilgosa sits a half-step below them at half the price. The 4.0 consensus reads right to us.

Verde at 51% is green agave at its most architectural

Tasting notes

Nose: Green herb, wet stone, bright mineral, a hint of eucalyptus

Palate: Cool and stone at 51%. Verde's character – chlorophyll-green, a touch astringent, holds at this proof without turning harsh. Gilberto Roldán handles the still well enough that the heat is structural rather than burning

Finish: Mineral, cool, slow herbal close – long

The bottom line

Near-Mezonte verde at half the price. Verde at 51% from a single maestro is a find
