A Sonoran ensamble that argues for the north

- Price: $40–90 ($$)
Verdict
Most Sonoran distillates are single-varietal because the palmares simply don't have the agave diversity of Oaxaca; Los Cantiles' ensamble is doing something slightly different. The 46-50% ABV and the shrevei signature give the blend a character that reads unmistakably northern – saline, dry, unsweetened. A credible argument for Sonoran ensambles as their own thing. Buy next to the Real Minero Puebla work for comparative range.
A northern ensamble that refuses the Oaxaca template
Tasting notes
Nose: Dry herb walks in first, then cooked agave, saline edge, a light smoke note
Palate: The shrevei base keeps the ensamble arid and focused – at 46-50% the proof structure is right, and the blend comes through as a composition rather than a consolidation. Unusual and coherent
Finish: Mineral, cleanly dry
The bottom line
A smart Sonoran ensamble. Worth owning
