Verdict
Uvalama grows wild in Sonora, and Mazot's infusion carries as an honest extension of the place rather than a commercial add-on. The result is a distinctive bottle that does something no Oaxaca mezcal can – gives you Sonora twice, in the base spirit and the fruit. Reach for it if you want your flavored bottles to have a sense of place.
Flavoring with the desert's own fruit is a different argument than slapping anise on a spirit
Tasting notes
Nose: Stewed dark fruit with desert herbs, faint smoke
Palate: 45% with the uvalama fruit pulling the pacifica toward a jammier, more aromatic register – this is a flavored bacanora where the flavoring is local rather than imported
Finish: Medium, fruity, mineral underneath
The bottom line
Pour when exploring bacanora. A genuinely regional flavored bottle
