Verdict
Mezul ensembles tequilana and angustifolia in Zacatecas, which is an interesting idea that arrives at 40% ABV – the commercial ceiling rather than the spec that lets agave talk. The liquid is clean and competent but drinks closer to a premium tequila-inflected joven than to something a serious mezcal drinker would revisit. No consensus data yet; we come in at that the proof does the damage.
40% on an ensamble is a decision – and a concession
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked sugar, then faint smoke, green apple, vanilla
Palate: 40% means the liquid has nowhere to hide, and this ensamble doesn't find a hiding place, sweet, thin, pleasant in a background way. The Zacatecas terroir is there but muted
Finish: Sweet, tidy. Short
The bottom line
A pass unless you're cataloging Zacatecas; if you're drinking, pour Mestiza Negra
