Pizcadores Bacanora
Sonoran bacanora from a Chihuahua-based multi-product brand
Score: 3.0/5 agaves
- Producer: Pizcadores
- Region: Sonora
- Agave: Angustifolia
- ABV: 45%
- Price: $40–90 ($$)
Verdict
Pizcadores is a family operation in Bachiniva that has expanded into every northern agave category simultaneously. Bacanora deserves more specialization than this. The bottle is drinkable and honestly priced, but anyone seriously interested in bacanora should reach for Rancho Tepua or Aguamiel before this. Skip unless the shelf is thin.
A multi-category brand's bacanora – competent, uncommitted
Tasting notes
Nose: Dry grass, faint diesel, cooked agave
Palate: Thin, warm, slightly medicinal. 45% proof on bacanora is standard, but the Pizcadores version reads more commercial than artisanal, the brand runs sotol, raicilla, and bacanora from the same operation, and the focus shows as a house flatness
Finish: Warm, fading, short
The bottom line
A multi-product brand spread too thin. Rancho Tepua is the serious Sonoran bacanora
