Verdict

Revel Avila is Lenny Kravitz's agave project bottled in Morelos, and the liquid is what happens when celebrity positioning meets a category that rewards specificity. Blending smoked and steamed agaves means the añejo reads as a tequila-mezcal hybrid optimized for neither. At 48% the barrel dominates. Skip it in favor of almost any real añejo tequila or any actual mezcal pechuga. The bottle looks good; the drink doesn't.

Neither tequila nor mezcal – and not in a useful way

Tasting notes

Nose: Barrel sweetness, then vanilla, light smoke, a manufactured caramel

Palate: Smooth at 48%, but the blend of smoked and steamed agaves plus añejo aging leaves the spirit halfway between tequila and mezcal with conviction toward neither

Finish: Short-medium, oak-sweet, thin

The bottom line

Celebrity positioning, hybrid liquid, top-shelf price. Buy a real añejo in either category
