Verdict
Same issue as the rest of the Revel Avila line: a steamed-and-smoked agave blend at commercial 40% ABV, dressed in a reposado cask and positioned as premium. The liquid tastes like what the brand's marketing promises, smooth, inoffensive, safe. That's the entire problem. Skip for any real mezcal reposado from Convite, Koch, or even Wahaka at the same price point.
The barrel did most of the work the distiller should have
Tasting notes
Nose: Oak, then vanilla, soft smoke, manufactured caramel
Palate: The barrel sanding the agave down to suggestion while adding a layer of sugar-cookie oak on top
Finish: Sweet, soft. Short
The bottom line
Smooth and safe is all it offers. Commercial positioning, commercial liquid
