Siglo Cero Pox
Chiapas pox – not mezcal, worth knowing about anyway
Score: 3.0/5 agaves
- Producer: Siglo Cero Pox
- Region: Chiapas
- ABV: 40.5%
- Price: $43 ($$)
Verdict
Pox is corn, cane, and whatever herbs the household decides to add – a ceremonial distillate from the Chiapas highlands with a cultural weight most agave spirits don't carry. Siglo Cero's version is the accessible-bottle introduction to the category, not a reference expression. Know it exists, drink it once, then find a Tzotzil-produced bottle if you want to understand the form.
Pox isn't mezcal and stops pretending to be
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked corn with a faint herbal note, minimal smoke
Palate: 40.5% carries a light, corn-forward distillate with a sugar-cane sweetness and a faint herbal edge – approachable, not transporting
Finish: Sweet, clean. Stays short
The bottom line
An entry-level pox for category curiosity. Not a daily pour
