Verdict
The Partida family's Chacolo distillates are among the most refined Jalisco raicillas and mezcales currently imported, and Swell's Los Convidados Lineño capón is the bottle that makes the case. Capón harvest – quiote cut, plant left to mature further – means concentrated sugars, and the Filipino still respects them. This belongs in the conversation with Cuentacuentos and Caballito Cerrero at the top of the Jalisco shelf.
Chacolo is Jalisco at its most composed. This bottle proves it
Tasting notes
Nose: Wet stone over cooked agave – stone, cracked pepper, a floral lift
Palate: 45.3% and Filipino-still distillation give this textural depth – the lineño's pepper-and-pear signature, the capón's concentrated sweetness, Macario Partida's discipline in the cuts
Finish: Mineral, peppery. Very long
The bottom line
Capón sugars through a Filipino still. Jalisco at its most composed
