Verdict
Rosalino Lopez Vicario works with an agave most drinkers and most brands have never encountered, and Tiawi Tiawi's berraquito is a category event. Three extra years of post-quiote maturation concentrate sugars; 47% proof preserves the concentration; Guerrero terroir grounds the whole thing. This sits next to Sin Gusano's Chino as one of the most interesting wild-agave bottles currently imported.
Berraquito – the agave Guerrero was hiding
Tasting notes
Nose: Wild herb, then cracked pepper, wet stone, a floral top
Palate: 47% lets berraquito speak at full volume, a rare Guerrero agave with concentrated pepper-and-herb signature, mineral depth, three extra years of maturation audible in the sweetness
Finish: Very long, peppery, chalky
The bottom line
Move fast. Berraquito at this quality is category news
