Verdict

Samuel Torres's verde at 50% runs as the aromatic counterpoint to the Beto-Julian bottling, same Nombre de Dios terroir, same plant, noticeably lighter hand. Between the two, you can taste what single-maestro bottling is actually for. Hunt both for the flight.

Same town, same agave, discernibly different maestro

Tasting notes

Nose: Wildflower walks in first, then dry herbs, warm stone, wet leaves

Palate: Aromatic and structured, with Torres's hand giving the verde a slightly brighter top-lift than the Beto-Julian version

Finish: Cooling, mineral, very long

The bottom line

Get both. Half of the Durango verde reference pair
