Yoowe Palmilla
A palmilla that rides the proof the way a northern spirit should
Score: 3.5/5 agaves
- Producer: Yoowe
- Region: Alamos, Sonora
- ABV: 49.1%
- Price: $40–90 ($$)
Verdict
Yoowe's palmilla is the kind of bottle that divides a table in a good way. At 49.1% the agave hits as intended, lean and mineral, with none of the sweetness drinkers trained on espadín expect. Consensus 3.8 sits below where the more adventurous drinker will put it. Reach for this over any entry-level commercial bacanora, it's a different conversation.
Palmilla at 49% – confident, not comfortable
Tasting notes
Nose: Dry grass with white pepper, a faint sulfuric mineral edge
Palate: Palmilla's wild-green character cutting through with a bracing dry finish. More austere than pretty; lean and hot at 49.1%
Finish: Dry, warming, long
The bottom line
For drinkers who already know what they like
