Mezcal from San Agustín Amatengo, Oaxaca

San Agustín Amatengo is one of the Ejutla district's working-palenque hubs. Most production runs espadín for mid-tier labels; a smaller number of palenques produce wild-agave bottlings worth tracking. Amatengo mezcal runs structurally similar to Tlacolula bottles – the slightly drier, more mineral register that local water and altitude produce. Most bottles ship $30-$60; the wild-agave end goes higher.
