Mezcal from Guerrero
Guerrero is the state where wild-agave cupreata production became serious. The high-altitude microregions around Mayalén and the Tres Papalote palenques produce some of the most articulate cupreata bottlings on the US market – bright, aromatic, vegetal, distinctly different from anything Oaxaca produces. Guerrero also produces espadín and arroqueño at competitive quality, often through single-maestro Mal Bien releases (Antonio Sonido, Joel Barriga, Aquilino García).
